Skipton Sports Injury Clinic
What is Sports Therapy?
Sports Therapy is the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries. It allows patients to maintain or return to full fitness and sporting competition. Sports Therapists are trained to recognise specific sporting injuries or problems and understand the most effective way to treat these.
Sports Therapy is for anyone of any age and sporting ability. It aims to use specific treatment plans for the preferred sport, be it for example football, rugby, bowls, or gym training.
Sports Therapy is a relatively new profession which is governed by the Society of Sports Therapists. To gain membership to the Society, a qualified sports therapist has to meet the requirements of being competent in first aid and post and pre exercise massage. A sports therapist must also have a high level of ability when assessing injuries and treating them, as well as having the knowledge to refer on where needed. A qualified sports therapist must also be able to create specific and personalised training programmes to optimise injury rehabilitation and prevention.
